During this practice, the car was chattering the right front tire really badly. The crew made adjustments, but the car didn't get any better. After the practice had concluded, the crew found out that there was something wrong with the right front shock, which would have caused the problems Austin felt on the racetrack. The crew fixed that up and hoped that would solve the problem.
For qualifying, Austin said the car felt better, but not great. He ended up 15th out of 26 really good cars. Since the ASA series implaments an "impound" rule, you can't make adjustments to your car after qualifying. So Austin was pretty much stuck with what he had. On the first few laps of the race Austin did a great job manuvering through all the chaos that ensued ahead of him, and made his way up to 10th place. As the race wore on, the car starting to handle very tight. The top 9 cars would slowly pull away, and 2 more cars would get by Austin. Later in the race, Austin would come in and make a pit stop, so that the crew could maybe fix the car's handling problem. They did, but they went a little too far which made the car really loose. Austin hung on for the rest of the race and finished 12th. Austin is now in the top 5 in the point standings and is tied for the lead in the "Rookie of the Year" points standings. In order to keep that position, he knows he must rebound and have a solid showing at the next race at New Senoia.
