Saturday practice would go decent as well, as the crew was able to make the car a little better each time Austin went out. For qualifying, Austin laid down 2 solid laps which allowed him to qualify 9th. The pole sitter drew a 9 pill, which meant that the top 9 would invert starting positions for the race. That means Austin would be starting first.
At the start of the race, Austin would find himself wishing a 10 pill would have been drawn (putting him 2nd, on the outside of the front row). The outside line was clearly the place to be, and Austin ended up getting freight-trained back to 4th position. Austin would run in 4th for 10 laps before getting passed by the eventual race winner. Austin rode in 5th place all the way until lap 98, when the 6th place car crashed Austin. Rather than put the 6th place car to the rear, the race officials put both Austin and the 6th place car to the rear. The officials were very inconsistent on the calls they were making, because earlier in the race, Austin was blatantly spun by another car, but in this instance, Austin was given his spot back, and the person who caused the wreck was sent to the back. With 2 laps to go, Austin was able to pass a few cars and get up to 9th position. It was a disappointing weekend, because what seemed to be AK Motorsports' first top 5 of the ASA season turned into a average 9th place finish.
